Motocross Boots

Apart from a quality helmet, protective motocross boots are the most important piece of protective gear for riders to use while racing or even when just riding their dirt bike.

The wide range of motocross boots that exist are designed for all-terrain vehicle riding, Motocross (MX) and off-roading. Motocross Boots differ from regular racing and motorcycle boots by being made of much stiffer material. They need this level of rigidity to aid in protecting a rider’s feet and legs from injury. While Motocross Boots are quite stiff, they are still much more flexible than ski boots.

Motocross boots made today are tight and form-fitting, yet very comfortable boots. They usually reach almost to the knee and are manufactured from a combination of plastic and/or man-made composite materials, leather and metal. A rider can get the Motocross Boot off easily because of the peculiar design of the shaft that allows it to open lengthwise. The rider can choose the tightness they prefer by making use of the four or five straps that are included along the shaft of the boot, the foot and the ankle. Some manufacturers include an internal quick-lacing system between the outer harder shell of the boot shaft and the soft inner leg. This system adds to the ability to have a fit that while snug-fitting, is still comfortable enough for the user. A metal plate protects the leading edge of the boot sole against rough terrain and is usually held in place by screws. The low heel on the motocross boot is usually not more than half an inch. The rider’s shin is shielded by the shin of the boot which is protected from debris that may be thrown from the front wheel of the motorcycle by a curved plate made of plastic covers or composite materials.

Wearing Motocross boots is a necessary precaution to keep feet, lower legs and ankles from injury. They are designed to provide protection against sticks, rocks, branches and other flying objects. They even protect against the potential hazard posed by other motorcycles and against the risk of breaking bones when the ankle or the foot is caused to move in an unnatural manner.

There is a high level of sophistication and technicality involved in the designing of Motocross boots. Impact areas are covered with armor shells and the calf and foot is shielded by impact resistance that provides a fit that is both snug and comfortable. They may be inappropriate for just walking around in but they are absolutely essential for racing motocross or for serious off road riding. Motocross boots of acceptable quality can be found for $200-$350.
